What is cash out and how does it work?

Cash Out is a feature which allows you to settle an open bet for a value determined at the time of ''cashing out''. The settlement value offered will fluctuate depending upon the current likelihood of the bet winning, and could be greater or less than the initial stake placed on the bet.

For instance, a £10 bet placed on Manchester United (1/1), Aston Villa (2/1) and Chelsea (6/4) would have the potential to return £150 if all three teams won. If all three were winning 1-0 with 5 minutes left to play, a cash out value could be offered for £135. If you cashed out your bet at this point, you would receive the £135.

If after you have cashed out the bet - Manchester United concede an equaliser, you would not be affected and would keep your £135.

Cash Out can be offered both on bets that are going well for you, and for bets which are not doing so well, allowing you to cash in on the favourable position for a guaranteed return, or limit your losses by closing out your position for a smaller return in instances where you think letting the original bet run might result in you losing your stake completely.

How do I know I have successfully placed a bet that is eligible for Cash Out?

On web browser, you can select 'My Bets' from the tab on the left hand side of your page. This will then show you which bets are open and eligible for cash out.

On the app, you can view this from open bets within 'My Bet'. My bets will appear on the bottom menu.

If the bet is eligible for cash out, you will see the option to cash out as seen below

No. If you press cash out accidentally or intentionally, your bet cannot be reinstated.

If I cash out my bet will it still be eligible for Sky Bet Club?

Cash Out Bets are not eligible for Sky Bet Club's weekly promotion. This means that if you cash out, your staked amount for that bet will not count towards your Sky Bet Club progress.

How does cash out work for stakes made up of Free Bets?

When a free bet has been used, cash out will be unavailable until the value of your cash out is higher than the value of your free bet. This is because your free bet stake amount is not part of any returns.

Why wasn't my Cash Out successful?

Cash Out offers are not guaranteed. If there is a sudden large movement in market prices, your Cash Out may be unsuccessful. If your Cash Out is successful you will see a Success message. If your Cash Out fails, you will see a Failure message, and a new offer will appear.

How is my Cash Out value calculated?

A Cash Out value is calculated using the amount staked, the price at the time the bet was placed and current price at the time of the Cash Out.

Why is my Cash out value so low when most of my selections are winning?

  • A Cash Out value is calculated using amount staked, price at the time the bet was placed and current price at the time of the Cash Out.
  • While you may have most selections winning, if one or more selections are considerably longer odds than taken to win, it will have a large impact on your cash out value.
  • An example of this would be if you have a treble bet with Manchester United (evens), Liverpool (13/10) and Arsenal (2/1) all to win with all kicking off at the same time. After 80 minutes of the game Manchester United are winning 3-0 and are now 1/500 to win, Liverpool are leading 2-0 and 1/250, but Arsenal are losing 2-1 and are now 50/1 to win.
  • Your cash out value would be low in this case due to the Arsenal selection now being much longer odds than those initially taken.

When do I get my Cashed Out winnings?

When a Cash Out is successful, any returns are credited to the account immediately.

Will my cash out bet be re-settled?

When Sky Betting & Gaming resettles a bet, this may lead to amendments being made to a customer's balance to reflect changes in bet settlement.

Why is cash out suspended?

Cash out should always be available to you on all Sky Betting & Gaming football match odds markets, but unfortunately, you may see cash out temporarily suspend due to the following reasons:

  1. Your cash out value is less than the Free Bet stake you've used, cash out will be available again if the value increases.
  2. The market you've bet on does not have cash out available (eg. football handicap markets)
  3. The market does not go in-play
  4. The market is suspended temporarily due to match incidents and market suspension. eg: when prices are changing after a goal, VAR, break point, try etc.

If the bet features multiple in-play games, the risk of suspension increases, and more patience may be required.
  5. For some games/events we are reliant on third parties to provide up to date information during play. This is relayed to us via a live feed. Occasionally this feed may be lost and as a result we are unable to accurately price up Cash Out amounts. Should this occur, we would remove the cash out functionality in the interests of fairness.
  6. Any major in game events that have an impact on the pricing can cause suspensions to the market. This gives us time to recalculate our odds and provide the best price. For example, when a goal is scored in Football, a wicket is taken in Cricket, there is a line challenge in Tennis or a player is out of bounds in Golf.
  7. Technical issue with your cookies.
  8. In addition to the above, our trading team regularly review customer accounts. Cash Out is an optional service offered at the discretion of Sky Betting and Gaming. We reserve the right to withdraw the functionality in line with our internal trading risk policies.

What does VAR stand for in football?

  • VAR stands for video assistant referee. It is actually a team of three people who work together to review certain decisions made by the main referee by watching video replays of the relevant incidents, in football.
  • Cash out can be suspended for different VAR reasons, to find out more about VAR, see our article here.

Why is my Cash Out value £0.00?

  • Should the odds then shorten for the selection(s) in question, a Cash Out value may return.
  • Also. a Cash Out value of £0.00 is quite common if you have staked using free bets, where the Cash Out amount is less than the amount staked. This is because the Cash Out value offered will not include the value of the free bet as free bet stakes are not part of any returns.
  • If you have a Cash Out eligible RequestABet, and the outcome is now impossible - for example, you bet on a 1st Goal Scorer as part of your RequestABet and a different player scored the goal, then you will see a £0.00 value.

Why is Cash Out not available?

  • Your Cash Out not being available is slightly different to it being suspended. Cash Out not available shows when you have either placed a single bet on a market that isn't eligible for Cash Out (such as a season long bet e.g. who will win the league?) or one selection in your multiple/accumulator bet isn't eligible which would restrict the Cash Out function for the whole bet.
  • Click the link here to be taken to our Cash Out eligible markets hub. From here you can view the markets eligible for Cash Out for football or other sports.

Why did I get a different amount when I cashed out to the one advertised?

Cash Out amounts are not guaranteed as they are based on the live Sky Betting & Gaming markets, where prices are constantly moving. This means you may receive more than indicated, or your Cash Out may be unsuccessful or only partially successful.

If a Cash Out is unsuccessful or partially successful then we will offer you a new Cash Out amount based on your revised position and the current prices in the Sky Betting & Gaming market.

What are Sky Betting & Gaming's cash out rules?

  • Cash Out is a feature which is offered on various singles and multiples Sportsbook bets. Cash Out allows you to amend your original bet and lock in a profit or a loss by settling your bet (or a portion of your bet) early, without having to wait for the event to finish.
  • Your request to Cash Out is not guaranteed to be accepted and may be unsuccessful if, for example, the market suspends the odds move before your request has been processed, due to an unforeseen technical issue, or if the third-party provider who covers the sporting event has not been able to continue coverage as originally agreed. Sky Betting & Gaming reserve the right to suspend or disable the Cash Out feature at any time. Sky Betting & Gaming cannot guarantee the availability at all times of the Cash Out functionality, even where the functionality has been advertised in connection with a particular event. Please be aware and accept, therefore, that unless Cash Out is available and successfully exercised in connection with a particular Bet, your initial Bet will, unless otherwise provided in accordance with the Terms of Use, stand as originally placed.
  • If your Cash Out request is successful, a "success" message will be shown and your bet (or the relevant portion of your bet) will be settled immediately and any winnings returned to your account equal to the amount shown on the Cash Out button. Note that this includes the original stake (or portion of your stake) and the total amount returned to your account will be the amount shown on the Cash Out button. The For a full Cash Out, the bet is settled and any subsequent events will have no impact on the amount returned to your account. For a partial Cash Out, part of your bet is settled and any subsequent events will only impact on the portion of your bet which you have not Cashed Out.
  • Live Betting Rules apply on all live bets where Cash Out is available.
  • Using Cash Out may mean you will opt out of and no longer be eligible for a particular promotion (e.g. Acca Insurance). See the terms and conditions of the promotion for further details.
  • On bets when a free bet has been used, cash out will be unavailable until the value of your cash out is higher than the value of your free bet.
  • Sky Betting & Gaming reserves the right to reverse the settlement of a Cash Out if the bet or a market is settled in error (for example, a human or technical error). If Sky Betting & Gaming resettles a bet, this may lead to amendments being made to a customer's balance to reflect changes in bet settlement.
  • For horse racing, Sky Betting & Gaming reserves the right to cancel a cash-out settlement when the selection that has been cashed out on becomes a non-runner subsequent to the bet being cashed out. In this occurrence as the bet placed was on a non-runner the bet will be void and the bet stake will be refunded.
