Formula One Rules (F1)

Formula One or F1, is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The Formula One World Championship has been one of the premier forms of racing around the world since its inaugural running in 1950.

Pre-Race

General Race Rules

  • All bets will be settled on the result at the end of the race, with the podium presentation deemed the official weigh-in for betting purposes. Subsequent disqualifications and amended results do not count.
  • Only drivers who are lined up on the grid when the lights go out to signal the start of the race will be deemed as starters. Drivers that start from the pit lane will also be deemed as starters.
  • With the exception of cars that start the race from the pit lane, cars that do not start the warm-up lap, or fail to complete the warm up lap, will not be deemed as starters and bets on them will be voided across all markets.

GP Outright Winner, Podium, Top 6 and Points

You're betting on: The race result, who finishes on the podium, who finishes in the top 6 and who scores points in the race.

  • Bets will be settled on the official podium result immediately following the race. (Points gained for Sprint Qualifying will not count towards settlement of this market).
  • FIA classifications will constitute the official result.
  • Subsequent amendments after the podium presentation will not count for betting purposes.

Double Podium Finish

You're betting on: Both drivers from the named team to finish on the podium.

  • Bets will be settled on the official podium result immediately following the race.
  • FIA classifications will constitute the official result.
  • Subsequent amendments after the podium presentation will not count for betting purposes.

Double Points Finish

You're betting on: Both drivers from the named team to finish in the points.

  • Bets will be settled on the official podium result immediately following the race.
  • FIA classifications will constitute the official result.
  • Subsequent amendments after the podium presentation will not count for betting purposes.

Winning Margin

You're betting on: How big will the winning margin be in the race.

  • Bets will be settled according to the timings provided by the FIA as the official result.

Race Match Bets

You're betting on: Which driver will beat a named competitor in the race.

  • Match-bets will be between two named drivers. Bets will be settled on the driver who achieves the highest race placing.
  • If both drivers fail to complete the race, the driver completing the most laps will be deemed the winner.
  • If both drivers retire on the same lap, either driver does not start or should either driver be disqualified, bets will be made void on both drivers.
  • If there are any disqualifications after the race then these will be disregarded for the purposes of settlement.

Race Hat-trick

You're betting on: Whether any named driver will grab pole, set the fastest lap of the race, and stand on the top step of the podium.

  • This market concerns whether any driver can complete a race hat-trick by setting the fastest qualifying time, setting the fastest lap of the race, and winning the race.
  • The most likely runners in this market will be quoted with others available upon request.

Winning Team

You're betting on: Which team the winning driver will race for.

  • Bets will be settled on the team of the driver who wins the race.

Race Winner Without Big 6

You're betting on: The race winner excluding any drivers for Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari.

Race Winner Without Big 3

You're betting on: The team winner excluding Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari.

Forecast Betting

You're betting on: the straight or dual forecast of the race - who finishes first and second in the race

  • Straight Forecast betting refers to two drivers to finish first and second in a stated order.
  • The drivers must finish in the first two positions in the classified race results - no other positions will count.
  • Dual Forecast betting refers to two drivers to finish in first and second place in any order.
  • The drivers must finish in the first two positions in the classified race results - no other positions will count.

Finishing Positions

You're betting on: The finishing position of a named driver.

  • Bets will be settled on the finishing position of the driver in question, and will be counted down to their position, including retirements. For instance, if 24 drivers start the race, and the named runner is the second retirement, with 10 drivers failing to finish the race, the finishing position would be 23rd.

To Be Classified

You're betting on: Whether or not the named driver will be a classified finisher,

  • FIA classifications will be used for the settlement of this market.
  • Rule 62.2 from the FIA Sporting Regulations state that: Cars having covered less than 90% of the number of laps covered by the winner (rounded down to the nearest whole number of laps), will not be classified. All drivers who finish are given a ranking, and for the purpose of match and positional betting this ranking shall apply.

Fastest Lap

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest lap of the race.

  • This market shall be settled on the driver who sets the fastest single lap of the race.
  • Drivers who set their fastest lap on their final lap following the leader winning the race will still be eligible to win this market with their fastest lap.

Fastest Pit Stop

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest total pit-lane time during the race.

  • All four wheels must be changed.
  • Drive-through penalties do not count.
  • Bets will be settled on Formula1.com official times.

Lap 1 Leader

You're betting on: Which driver will lead after the 1st lap.

  • This market will be settled on the driver who leads after 1 lap.
  • Should the race start under a Safety Car, all bets on this market shall be made void.

Lap 1 Retirements

You're betting on: How many drivers will retire without completing a single lap.

  • Bets will be settled on how many cars fail to complete the first lap.
  • FIA classifications will be used for the settlement of this market.
  • Should the race start under Safety Car conditions, bets on this market will be made void.
  • Only cars who are lined up on the grid when the lights go out to signal the start of the race will be deemed to be starters, and eligible to be a "Lap 1 Retirement" - cars who fail to complete the warm-up lap, or whom do not reach the starting grid will not be included. 

First Team to Retire

You're betting on: Which car will be the first to retire.

  • Bets will be settled on the first team to retire a car from the race.
  • Should more than one car retire on the same lap, Dead Heat rules apply.
  • Only cars who are lined up on the grid when the lights go out to signal the start of the race will be deemed to be starters, and eligible to be a "First Team to Retire" - cars who fail to complete the warm-up lap, or whom do not reach the starting grid will not be included. 

First Driver to Retire

You're betting on: Which driver will be the first to retire.

  • Bets will be settled on the first driver to retire a car from the race.
  • Should more than one car retire on the same lap, Dead Heat rules apply.
  • Only cars who are lined up on the grid when the lights go out to signal the start of the race will be deemed to be starters, and eligible to be a "First Driver to Retire" - cars who fail to complete the warm-up lap, or whom do not reach the starting grid will be made void. 

Safety Car

You're betting on: Whether a safety car will be used in the race.

  • Bets will be settled on whether or not the Safety Car is used in the race. The Safety Car will be deemed to have been used if Race Control signal for the car to join the track.
  • Bets on the safety car will only be settled if a physical safety car enters the track at any point during the race. Virtual safety car will not count and bets will not be settled as "Yes" based solely upon this.
  • Should the race start under Safety Car conditions, bets on this market will be made void.
  • Should the race be restarted with a safety car after a red flag, this will not count towards settlement.

Total Classified Finishers

You're betting on: How many drivers are classified finishers in the race.

  • Bets will be settled on the total number of classified finishers according to the FIA official results.
  • Under FIA Rules, drivers who fail to complete 90% of the race distance are classified as non-finishers. All drivers who finish are given a ranking, and for the purpose of match and positional betting this ranking shall apply.

Abandoned/Postponed Races

The following is an excerpt from paragraph 6.5 in the F1 Sporting Regulations:

  • "If a race is suspended under Article 41, and cannot be resumed, no points will be awarded if the leader has completed less than two laps, half points will be awarded if the leader has completed more than two laps but less than 75% of the original race distance and full points will be awarded if the leader has completed more than 75% of the original race distance."
  • For betting purposes, we shall settle on the official result if two or more laps have been completed. If fewer than two laps are completed, we shall settle any markets which have been unconditionally determined in their entirety. All other markets shall be made void. Unconditionally determined markets are defined as full betting markets or selections about which the result is already fully known. For instance, in Safety Car bets, if the Safety car has already appeared, then all bets on "Yes" and "No" would be settled as the result could not change. If the Safety Car has not appeared at the time, then all bets would be made void.
  • A race will be considered to be abandoned based on FIA announcements.
  • All race bets are settled on the official FIA classification at the time of the podium presentation, with subsequent disqualifications/penalties disregarded. The race must be ran within 72 hours of the scheduled off time for bets to stand.

  • Settlement will be based on F1s official result from Formula1.com. Penalties may apply.

Group Betting

You're betting on: Which driver from the given group of drivers will finish highest in the race.

  • All must start the race otherwise bets will be void.

Pre-Qualifying

General Qualifying Rules

  • In the event that two drivers set identical times, FIA classifications will apply, with the driver setting the time first deemed the winner.
  • If a Driver takes ANY part in qualifying then they are classed as a participant for all related markets.
  • During "Sprint" weekends, a separate event page will be available for all markets relating to the Sprint section of the GP. Any market or selection that does not directly refer to the "Sprint" will otherwise refer to the race Qualifying session, or the race itself. Any markets/selections that reference "Pole Position" will refer to the starting grid for the Grand Prix - These will be therefore be settled based off the result of the race Qualifying session.
  • Any subsequent grid penalties or disqualifications shall be ignored for betting purposes, this includes all Request A Bets.

Fastest Qualifier

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest time in final qualifying.

  • The driver who sets the fastest official qualifying time in the final qualifying session will be deemed the winner, regardless of any demotions or penalties applied, including in Sprint Qualifying.
  • Official FIA places apply if times are recorded as identical.
  • Times set in Q1 and Q2 will not count for settlement purposes unless there is a change to the planned qualifying schedule.
  • Should any part of qualifying fail to take place, the times set in the final timed session, dictating the grid order, will count for settlement.
  • If a Qualifying session doesn't take place then bets on this market will be void.

To Qualify on the Front Row

You're betting on: Which drivers will line-up on the front row of the grid following qualifying.

  • Bets will be settled in the same manner as bets on Fastest Qualifier, with the fastest two drivers winning this market.

Qualifying Match Bets

You're betting on: A match up between named drivers in their qualifying performance in final qualifying.

  • The winner will be deemed to be the driver who sets the fastest qualifying time during the final qualifying session between the two drivers quoted.
  • If either driver fails to begin a qualifying lap, then all bets on that match will be void.
  • Any subsequent grid penalties or disqualifications shall be ignored for betting purposes.

Qualifying Winning Margin

You're betting on: The winning margin in the final qualifying session.

  • Bets will be settled on the winning margin of the times in the final qualifying session.

Qualifying Position

You're betting on: Will the named driver's final qualifying position be higher or lower than the selections quoted.

  • This market will be settled based off the results of the race qualifying session. Any subsequent grid penalties or disqualifications applied after the session has concluded shall be ignored for betting purposes.
  • For Sprint weekends, a separate Sprint Shootout Qualifying Position market will be offered.

To Make Qualifying Session 3

You're betting on: The named driver to qualify to compete in qualifying session 3.

  • Should a driver qualify to compete in Qualifying session 3 but then fail to set a lap time in Qualifying session 3 they will be settled as a winner.
  • Official FIA places apply if times are identical.
  • Should there be a change to the normal Qualifying session schedule (Q1 followed by Q2 followed by Q3) all bets on this market will be made void.
  • If any driver fails to leave the pits during Qualifying session 1 all bets on that driver will be made void.

Qualifying Trebles

You're betting on: Which drivers will win Q1,Q2 & Q3.

  • Should there be a change to the normal Qualifying session schedule (Q1 followed by Q2 followed by Q3) all bets on this market will be made void.

Pre-Practice

Practice Session Winner

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest time in the specified practice session.

  • The driver who sets the fastest timed lap during the practice session will be deemed the winner.
  • Official FIA places apply if times are recorded as identical.
  • In the unlikely event that fewer than 13 drivers complete a full timed lap during the session, bets on all drivers shall be made void.

Practice Match Bets

You're betting on: A match up between named drivers in the specified practice session.

  • The winner will de deemed to be the driver who sets the fastest timed lap during the specified practice session between the two drivers quoted.
  • If either driver fails to complete a timed lap, then all bets on that match will be void on both selections.

In-Play

Fastest Qualifier

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest time in final qualifying.

  • The driver who sets the fastest official qualifying time in the final qualifying session will be deemed the winner, regardless of any demotions or penalties applied.
  • Official FIA places apply if times are recorded as identical.
  • Times set in Q1 and Q2 will not count for settlement purposes unless there is a change to the planned qualifying schedule.
  • Should any part of qualifying fail to take place, the times set in the final timed session, dictating the grid order, will count for settlement.

Race Winner

You're betting on: Which driver wins the race.

  • Bets will be settled on the official podium result immediately following the race.
  • FIA classifications will constitute the official result.
  • Subsequent amendments after the podium presentation will not count for betting purposes.

Winning Margin

You're betting on: How big will the winning margin be in the race.

  • Bets will be settled according to the timings provided by the FIA as the official result.

Fastest Lap

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest lap of the race.

  • This market shall be settled on the driver who sets the fastest single lap of the race.
  • Drivers who set their fastest lap on their final lap following the leader winning the race will still be eligible to win this market with their fastest lap.

Safety Car

You're betting on: Whether a safety car will be used in the race.

  • Bets will be settled on whether or not the Safety Car is used in the race. The Safety Car will be deemed to have been used if Race Control signal for the car to join the track.
  • Bets on the Safety Car will only be settled if a physical safety car enters the track at any point during the race. Virtual Safety Cars will not count and bets will not be settled as "Yes" based solely upon this.

Season

Championship Betting

You're betting on: Which driver or constructor wins their respective Championship titles.

  • Betting on both the Drivers World Championship and the Constructors World Championship will be treated as all-in whether they compete or not.
  • Bets will be settled according to the official Championship result at the podium presentation following the final race of the season.
  • Where there is a tie for the Championship, bets shall be settled according to most races won, followed by most 2nd place finishes as per FIA rules.

Constructors Championship Without Betting

You're betting on: The winner of the Constructors Championship excluding the named teams.

  • Bets will be settled according to the official Championship result at the podium presentation following the final race of the season.
  • Where there is a tie for the Championship, bets shall be settled according to most races won, followed by most 2nd place finishes as per FIA rules.

Season Match Betting

You're betting on: Which driver will collect the most Championship points over the course of the season.

  • All bets will stand provided that both drivers participate in a minimum of one World Championship event following the placement of the bet.
  • The winner will be deemed to be the driver who collects the most World Championship points with the weigh-in considered the podium result of the final race of the season.
  • Should either driver fail to participate in a single event, then all bets on both drivers will be void.
  • Should there be a tie on points between two runners, the winner will be determined by FIA rules.

Group Betting

You're betting on: Which driver from a selected group will collect the most Championship points over the course of the season.

  • Betting will be treated as all-in whether they compete or not.
  • No Rule-4 will apply to groups where one or more drivers do not participate in the World Championship.
  • The winner will be deemed the driver who collects the most World Championship points with the weigh in considered to be the podium result of the final race of the season.

 Second Half of Season Specials

  • All selections in the Second Half of Season Specials page will be settled based on results after the summer break. Any achievements made before the summer break will not be counted.
  • In the event that two or more drivers/teams tie for the most podiums/points within a market, Dead Heat rules apply. This does not apply to H2Hs, where selections will be settled as losers if there is a tie.
  • Achievements in the Sprint format will not be counted towards settlement, unless stated within the market notes.

Fastest in Q1/Q2

You're betting on: You are betting on which driver will set the fastest lap in Q1/Q2.

  • Should Q1/Q2 not go ahead all bets will be void.

Virtual GP

  • Should any driver experience technical/connectivity issues during qualifying but take part in the race, then all bets will stand. Should they take no part in the race following qualifying, bets will be void.

GP Outright Winner, Podium, Top 6 and Points

You're betting on: The race result, who finishes on the podium, who finishes in the top 6 and who score points in the race.

  • Bets will be settled on the official podium result immediately following the race.
  • Any driver disqualified will be settled a loser.

Fastest Lap

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest lap of the race.

  • This market shall be settled on the driver who sets the fastest single lap of the race.
  • Drivers who set their fastest lap on their final lap following the leader winning the race will still be eligible to win this market with their fastest lap.
  • Any driver disqualified will be settled as a loser.

Fastest Qualifier

You're betting on: Which driver will set the fastest official qualifying time.

  • The driver who sets the fastest official qualifying time in the final qualifying session will be deemed the winner, regardless of any demotions or penalties applied.

Pick The Podium

You're betting on: Which driver will win the race by the quoted winning margin.

  • Bets will be settled according to the timings provided by the FIA as the official result.

Unless stated, selections offered apply to the race day and NOT to practice or qualifying. For example:
